Matt Trefilek

I'm a software and machine-learning engineer in Madison, Wisconsin. Originally from Illinois, I graduated from Northern Michigan University in 2017, worked as a full-stack developer for the University of Wisconsin–Madison, and finished a master's in computer science at UW–Madison in 2021 with a focus on machine learning. I later worked at Rentable (formerly ABODO) on NLP and infrastructure problems. I now work as an AI engineer at MoveIn.

I enjoy learning how things work and building projects. At work I build AI products and infrastructure. At home that can mean making a Revolutionary War–themed letter game or a two-player Middle-earth strategy game with my family. Those projects have their own page, Learning at home, and my wife and I write about them on the Blog.

Away from a keyboard I'm usually hiking, biking, camping, skiing, or scuba diving. I also enjoy making films with family and friends under the Sunset Films and Whetstone Productions banners.
